Greg Salsbury Ph.D

In 2006, Dr. Gregory Salsbury published his award-winning retirement planning guide, But What If I Live? The American Retirement Crisis®. In addition to being an indispensable resource for the millions of Baby Boomers preparing to exit the workforce, the book also brought to light a host of challenges that posed a serious threat to Americans’ retirement security.\nThree years later, the nation is contending with the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and the issues Dr. Salsbury described in The American Retirement Crisis have taken on a whole new dimension.\n“The original concept for my next book was to examine retirement planning through the lens of behavioral finance,” said Dr. Salsbury. “When the crisis hit, it amplified the very issues I intended to discuss, and had a profound impact on the financial security of millions of Americans. My new premise became: Investor psychology meets retirement planning in the midst of a once-in-a-lifetime financial meltdown.”\nRetirementology is Dr. Salsbury’s term for the new way of thinking he believes we must adopt in order to address the fundamental changes in our economic environment.\n“In this market, managing emotions is just as important as managing investments,” Dr. Salsbury said. “The essential questions I try to answer in the book are, ‘How has the new environment impacted spending and saving habits?’ and ‘What can we do to get back on track for our retirement?’”\nDr. Salsbury has spent more than 20 years researching and writing about retirement planning and investor psychology. While gathering material for Retirementology, he conducted focus groups with dozens of couples and families at various stages of their financial journeys. These revealing “man-on-the-street” interviews are sprinkled throughout the book, providing a valuable glimpse into the real-life challenges Americans are facing.\nHe is also a frequent keynote speaker and widely published author in the areas of employee motivation and marketing communications. He earned his doctorate from the University of Southern California and received Master’s degrees from both the University of Illinois and USC’s Annenberg School for Communications.\nDr. Salsbury is currently executive vice president of Jackson National Life Distributors LLC, the sales and marketing organization of Jackson National Life Insurance Company® (Jackson®). He lives in Denver, Colorado, with his wife and three children.
