Sheila Colclasure

Privacy Officer, The Americas

As Acxiom’s Privacy Officer for the Americas, Sheila Colclasure is principally responsible for managing the fair information practices compliance, client support and external policy setting of a publicly-traded information management company with annual revenues in excess of $1 billion. Founded in 1969, Acxiom is headquartered in Little Rock, Ark., with locations throughout the United States, Europe, Australia and China. Acxiom integrates data, services and technology to create and deliver customer and information management solutions for many of the largest and most respected companies in the world.Sheila’s primary areas of focus include monitoring and coordinating enterprise-wide compliance with legal regulations, such as the FCRA, GLB, the Privacy and Safeguard Rules, the Telemarketing Sales Rule, and CAN-SPAM, industry guidelines, such as the Direct Marketing Association’s Privacy Promise and Acxiom’s own leading-practice privacy policies, external liaison and representation to policy setting entities, including state and federal legislators, regulators and industry coalitions and providing client support, coaching and advocacy on privacy as a strategic business essential.� As part of her role, she has developed and implemented an annual privacy audit function that is widely regarded as the best in the industry. Sheila advises elected officials and regulators on privacy issues and privacy legislation. Sheila also works with Acxiom clients and industry members to show them how privacy compliance is an essential component of their overall business strategy and how it can be a competitive advantage for their business.Sheila functions as corporate liaison to several industry standards-setting groups, including the Hunton Center for Information Policy Leadership, the Coalition for Sensible Public Record Access, the Information Policy Institute, the American Legislative Exchange Council and the Consumer Data Industry Association. She is a published author on the subject of privacy, is frequently interviewed by the media on the issue, and has �represented the industry for discussion on consumer privacy in a number of forums, including the Conference of Western Attorneys General, National Association of Attorneys General, American Legislative Exchange Council, International Association of Privacy Professionals Global Conferences, Direct Marketing Association Annual Conferences, American Bar Association Annual Conferences, Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business eVision event series, CRM Solutions Expo, the Marketing Science Institute, and on the television show, Life & Times Tonight (KCET, Los Angeles PBS affiliate).Prior to joining Acxiom, Sheila managed Congressional and Political Affairs for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in their Washington, D.C., office, where she focused on legislative and regulatory initiatives as well as directing their Political Action Committee.� Sheila has a master’s degree in Communications, specializing in Political and Business communication.
