BREAKOUT A: WHAT THE EVOLUTION OF RECESSIONS MEANS FOR YOUR CLIENTS—CE CREDIT

Polina Vlasenko, Ph.D. Senior Research Fellow, AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR ECONOMIC RESEARCH

Complete market certainty is unattainable, but what we have to our advantage is all of the research gleaned and analyzed from those downturns.

The most prominent difference in the three recessions that occurred in the United States since 1990 from those that occurred earlier is the fact that all these modern recessions are followed by jobless recoveries, a situation where economy’s output grows without a corresponding increase in employment, large loss of employment relative to the loss of output, prevalence of permanent layoffs, and relatively long intervals between recessions.

This session will discuss the steps individuals and businesses can take to be better prepared for the next recession and its consequences, giving insight to advisors on the conversations they’ll need to have with their clients, and the strategies necessary to protect their assets.
