Firms must have compliance software. But just as important, reps and advisors need something to say on social media. And ideally, they have something to say on a consistent basis.

Writing posts and adding content to social sites takes time. And left unchecked, monitoring social sites will slowly take more time each day.

Reps and advisors need to have a combination of automated posts and personal posts when working with social media. A 2/3 to 1/3 ratio is about right.

Reps and advisors also must make certain that their automated posts follow the publishing slant of "reinforcing the importance of reps and advisors when making financial decisions."
