LearnVest Live, the first event from start-up LearnVest, and attended by nearly 1,000 women, was a client appreciation event, a referral event and an educational event all in one.


While advisors might not snag designer Cynthia Rowley for their next client event, LearnVest Live showcased some important elements of a fun, successful client event. Check out photos from the event and read the blog to see what lessons advisors can take away.

Guests were served beer and wine throughout the night. After the general session, attendees picked up a choice of three different boxed dinners and could take their food and drink into each session, creating a social, party-like atmosphere.

During and between sessions, attendees ate, drank and chatted.


"Apparently every good-looking, successful, young working woman in Manhattan is at [LearnVest Live] right now...In case guys were wondering," attendee Alana Taylor tweeted.

The big hits of the evening included a session on fashion by designer Cynthia Rowley, one on food by "Top Chef" star and author Gail Simmons, and another by HGTV interior designer, Genevieve Gorder, pictured above.


According to Sofia, advisors can duplicate this strategy. "Every advisor can do that. There's a celebrity effect in our business too...Advisors can do this on a smaller scale," Sofia said.

Majority of Face Time Majority of Face Time

Even with several celebrities on the agenda, von Tobel still headlined the event. She kicked it off with the general assembly, followed by two breakout sessions, the 5 Year Plan and Investing.


According to Sofia, while it can be a great idea to include other experts and possibly even a celebrity, it's important that the advisor has a "majority of the face time."
