Citi Private Bank hired Gil Ahrens in its Palo Alto, Calif., office as director and ultra-high-net-worth private banker.

He will work closely with ultra high net worth clients—those with a net worth of at least $25 million—in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. He'll also work in coordination with other practice areas at the bank such as capital markets, managed investments and trust and estate planning, the company said in a press release.

Ahrens will report to Lisa Roberts, Northern California Region Executive, Citi Private Bank. “Gil’s well established network in this market and his outstanding reputation for providing exceptional client service make him an ideal fit for Citi Private Bank’s Palo Alto team,” Roberts said in the press release. “He will play a key role in helping us continue to grow our franchise in Northern California and to reaching more ultra high net worth clients with the tailored investment advice and wealth planning solutions we provide.”

Ahrens joins Citi from JP Morgan in Palo Alto where he was most recently a director in the Private Wealth Management group working with venture capital and investment banking clients. Prior to that, he was a managing director and head of venture coverage at JP Morgan. He previously spent eight years at Piper Jaffray & Co., and three years before that at Cowen & Co. as an investment banker. He began his career at Sanyo Electric Co. in 1991 in strategic planning.

Citi Private Bank has 26 offices in North America, and 60 offices globally in 26 countries. It oversees $250 billion in assets under management globally. It does not break out AUM figures regionally.
