Northern Trust (NTRS) is expanding its workforce on the Emerald Isle.

The $94 billion-asset bank holding company said Wednesday it expects to add 400 jobs at its fund administration operation in Limerick, Ireland by 2017.

Northern Trust currently employs about 300 people in Limerick, which the company chose in 2006 as a second location for its fund business.  The Chicago-based bank also has an office in Dublin.

Ireland's economic development agency is supporting the company's move on undisclosed terms.

Northern Trust said the additional jobs would include positions in accounting, financial reporting, private equity and varied back-office functions.

Though it is committed to beefing up its fund administration staff, Northern Trust has been trimming jobs in elsewhere in an effort to control costs. The company announced early this year that it was eliminating roughly 700 jobs worldwide, including about 350 in Europe.
