"Counseling Clients through Mental Illness,” by Managing Editor Lorie Konish, was honored as Best Single Article at the Jesse H. Neal Awards.

Sponsored by American Business Media, the 59th annual awards, announced Tuesday, are among the highest honor in business-to-business journalism. Nearly 650 entries were judged this year on journalistic enterprise, editorial craftsmanship and innovation.

“Counseling Clients Through Mental Illness”provided an intimate look at the compelling topic of mental health disorders and their impact on both financial planners and their clients.

"It was truly strong work, thorough reporting, terrific writing – and a powerful subject with both business and human significance," said David Longobardi, executive vice president and chief content content officer of SourceMedia, publisher of On Wall Street.

Konish focused on Michael Scott, an Ameriprise advisor in Massachusetts, who has tailored his practice around addressing the special needs of clients and families coping with mental illness. For Scott, transforming his business and his team was not only a business decision, but also took on personal significance once his mother was diagnosed with a combination of mental disorders.

Read the full story of Scott’s personal challenges and how they transformed his business.
