Fannie Mae named David Johnson on Tuesday to be the government-sponsored enterprise's executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Mr. Johnson previously worked at Hartford Financial Services Group as an executive vice president and chief financial officer. He also was the CFO at Cendant Corp. and spent 12 years in investment banking at Merrill Lynch & Co.

Mr. Johnson faces a particularly tall order at Fannie, which has operated under conservatorship since September. The GSE reported a $29 billion third-quarter loss.
