UBS is hiring a veteran Merrill Lynch executive as its newest complex managing director, the firm said.

Greg Achten will lead UBS' Cincinnati complex, which is one of the largest complexes of UBS, according to the firm. He will take over as complex manager on April 18.

Achten started his career as an advisor at Merrill, according to FINRA BrokerCheck records. In 2001, Achten became a producing manager of the Merrill's office in Dearborn, Mich., according to UBS. He later held management positions in locations such as Dallas and Cincinnati. Achten is currently on a garden leave.

A spokeswoman for Merrill Lynch declined to comment his move.

Prior to his move to UBS, he served as managing director at Merrill's Boston Complex for two years, a spokesman said.

Recently, UBS said it hired former Brevan Howard partner Vinay Pande and his team to its wealth management unit. Pande assumed a newly created role of managing director and head of trading strategies at the bank’s chief investment office, according to the firm.
