The Financial Planning Association elected four new members to its board of directors last Friday.

Edward Gjersten II, CFP; Vern Hayden, CFP; Christopher Rand, CFP and Janet Stanzak will all serve three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2010.

Gjersten is vice president of Mack Investment Securities, of Glenview, Ill., and has been an FPA member for 13 years. He served as co-chair of the president/president-elect track for the Chapters Leaders Conference 2008 and is currently part of the FPA diversity task force, technology committee, and social media and networking committee.

An FPA member for 36 years, Hayden is president of Hayden Wealth Management, Westport, Conn. He was president of Connecticut’s North Bay chapter of the International Association for Financial Planning (IAFP), FPA’s predecessor organization. He has also served on the Board of Regents for the College of Financial Planning; was a board member and founder of the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE); and served as chairman and executive committee member of NEFE. He was also on NEFE’s board of trustees.

Rand is a senior financial planner at MetLife’s Financial Planning Division in San Diego, Calif., and has been an FPA member since 2001. Rand hosts “You Family Matters”, a weekly talk radio program in San Diego.  Within the organization, Rand has worn various hats for the FPA of San Diego, including president, public relations director, government relations director, program director and secretary.

Stanzak is principal and owner of Financial Empowerment, Bloomington, Minn., and has been an FPA member since 1985. Stanzak has been an adjunct faculty member for the College of Financial Planning, where she taught the investments portion of the CFP Certification Examination. She also taught high school financial planning curriculum for NEFE, and was a member of the advisory council for the CFP certificant review course in Minnesota.  

She has also held several local and national leadership positions for the FPA, including president of FPA of Minnesota, chair of the FPA National Leadership advisory group, chair of the FPA Chapter Leaders Resource Council and chair of the FPA Chapter Leaders Conference 2008.
