Franklin Templeton Promotes Mahoney to Run Internal and Digital Sales

Franklin Templeton Investments promoted Michael Mahoney to head of internal and digital sales.

It announced Wednesday that Mahoney, who has worked for the San Mateo, Calif., based investment manager since 1993, is “now responsible for overseeing and mentoring the firm’s internal sales staff, and will also seek ways to enhance sales techniques to make them more salient in the digital age.”

He will work closely with Franklin Templeton’s marketing and technology groups to continue to develop its total relationship strategies.  Mahoney will report to Dan O’Lear, executive vice president of U.S. advisory services for Franklin Templeton Distributors Inc.

“Mike is an experienced external sales representative with a deep understanding of the needs of financial advisors and their clients,” O’Lear said.  “Bringing him ‘inside’ will greatly benefit our internal sales team by strengthening continuity between our internal and external wholesaling teams.”

Mahoney is a three-time recipient of the company’s “Wholesaler of the Year” award.  Prior to his new position, he was a senior vice president and divisional sales manager.  He has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Jeffrey Rose will replace Mahoney as a divisional sales manager. Rose, who has worked for Franklin Templeton since 2001, will now oversee the Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas sales territories. Rose previously was a wholesaler covering the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area and northern Minnesota.  He is one of seven divisional sales managers reporting to Bob Geppner, a senior vice president and national sales manager, who reports to O’Lear.

Franklin Templeton has $681 billion in assets under management as of Feb. 28.
