Goldman Sachs Veteran Named President at Apollo

Apollo Global Management named Marc Spilker as president, a new role at the firm. Spilker, 46, had retired from Goldman Sachs in May after roughly 20 years there.

As president, Spilker will be expected to run the day-to-day operations of Apollo. He will also sit on the firm's executive committee, which already includes Leon Black, Josh Harris, Marc Rowan and Henry Silverman.

Spilker originally joined Goldman in 1990, and worked in the firm's U.S. equities trading and global equity derivatives group before assuming the role of co-head of investment management in 2008.

The hiring is just the latest reflecting the widening appeal of private equity to Wall Street veterans post Dodd Frank. Apollo rival Kohlberg Kravis Roberts lured Goldman's former proprietary trading desk in October.
