Navy Veteran to Lead NAPFA

A fee-only RIA with a military background will soon be leading NAPFA.

Robert Gerstemeier, who founded his own advisory practice 11 years ago, will become national chair starting Sept. 1, the association announced Thursday. Gerstemeier, who graduated from Miami University on a U.S. Navy Scholarship, will take over the NAPFA leadership post from Linda Leitz when her one-year term ends.

“I’m looking forward to building on all the efforts of past NAPFA leaders and to continue that process as we develop programs and services to support our members,” said Gerstemeier in a statement. “During my term, I also want to continue educating the general public about the exceptional advantage they gain by engaging a NAPFA advisor to help them navigate their financial lives.”

The NAPFA chair-elect founded Gerstemeier Financial Group, a fee-only RIA firm with Chicago and Cincinnati offices, in 2003. He is a certified financial planner who is also enrolled to practice before the IRS as an enrolled agent.

Prior to starting his financial planning career, Gerstemeier served in the U.S. Navy as a flight officer. He has been a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves for the past 10 years and in 2009 was recalled to active duty for a deployment in Afghanistan.
