Oppenheimer & Co. and Oppenheimer Asset Management have announced the hiring of John Stoltzfus as a managing director and chief market strategist.

Stoltzfus comes from Ticonderoga Securities, where he was Senior Market Strategist, responsible for providing macroeconomic, market outlook and strategy ideas. Previously, he had worked at Morgan Stanley, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Bank of America; at BofA, Stoltzfus served as Senior Market Strategist in the Investment Strategies Group.

At Oppenheimer, Stoltzfus plans to produce a weekly strategy piece and with other market commentary. His associate, Matthew Naidorf, will work with Stoltzfus on these projects. Stoltzfus also will work with Oppenheimer Asset Management's Chief Market Technician Carter Worth and other analysts in developing  collaborative and thematic pieces. Stoltzfus will be the firm's media spokesperson for market strategy.

"Oppenheimer has long been known for its research," Stoltzfus said in a statement. "I look forward to the work I can do in such an impressive operation." Stoltzfus is an adjunct Professor in the Finance Department of New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

"I am very pleased that a strategist of John's eminence has joined us, and I look forward to the contribution he will make to the firm and its clients," said John Parks, Oppenheimer's Head of Equity Research. "John's career shows me that he understands service to clients as well as advanced strategic research."

Also at Oppenheimer & Co., Parks has a new team of analysts reporting to him from the firm’s San Francisco office. Brian Schwartz has joined the firm as Managing Director and Senior Analyst, covering Software as a Service/Applications Software.

Schwartz is accompanied by his associate, Greg Lazar.

Schwartz comes from ThinkEquity LLC, where he was a Senior Analyst, covering that software sector. Previously, he held similar positions at Montgomery & Co., Piper Jaffray, and RBC Capital Markets. His business career also includes serving as President and founder of event-based marketing company Pyramid Sports as well as Business Development Manager at RCM Technologies.

"We are very pleased that Brian and Greg have joined us,” Parks said. “They are a dynamic team, and we look forward to the contribution they will make to our research department. Brian has spent many years working in the SaaS/Applications Software space and has built a strong franchise based on proprietary survey-driven micro research and in-depth macro perspective. Brian will be instrumental in continuing to build our presence in the SaaS/Applications Software space."
