Former Raymond James Advisor Joins Small Regional Firm

A former Raymond James advisor has joined a small regional broker-dealer, U.S. Capital Advisors.

John Howle, a 30-year industry veteran, is now managing director in the Dallas office of U.S. Capital Advisors, also known as USCA. According to FINRA records, Howle started his career in 1984 at Dean Witter and later worked at Southwest Securities and Raymond James & Associates.

In June, USCA recruited advisors from UBS and J.P. Morgan Securities managing more than $500 million in assets. The Houston-based firm also has offices in Austin, and has about 30 advisors and 100 employees working in its wealth management and capital markets units.

Patrick Mendenhall, managing partner and head of wealth management at USCA, told On Wall Street in June that the firm saw significant growth opportunities in the Lone Star State, pointing to a booming energy sector in particular. The firm has also recruited managing directors from Merrill Lynch and Barclays.

"We're going to be very attractive to the right kind of producer," says Mendenhall. "We're profitable. We're generating cash. And we're going to bring those advisors here."
