Putnam Equips Advisors With Info on New Tax Law

Putnam Investments is making information on the sweeping new tax laws available to advisers and their clients at its adviser website (www.putnam.com/advisor) and new wealth management center (www.putnam.com/wmc).

The “Tax Insights” center includes client education pieces, a client seminar, a white paper and videos to teach advisers about actionable tax-planning ideas on such issues as the alternative minimum tax, directing tax-free IRA distributions to qualified charities, the estate tax, payroll taxes and healthcare taxes.

“The legislation signed into law in December represents the most significant tax law in a decade, but its scope and complexity can be overwhelming,” said William D. Cass, senior vice president at Putnam. “Through Putnam Investments’ Wealth Management Center, we are providing the information advisers need to stay current and ensure that their clients are well-served in this ever-changing tax environment.”

The new legislation applies only to the next two years, but after 2011, there is a real threat of higher taxes, Cass said. “So, it’s imperative that individuals take advantage of current tax opportunities now,” he said.
