$140M Ameriprise Team Joins Raymond James

A team that managed $140 million in client assets at Ameriprise has signed on with Raymond James, the firm said.

Ty G. Rogers, Donald Furuya and John C. Fleishman joined the firm's employee advisory channel with a senior registered sales associate, Lily Schweitzer. The group will operate as the Rogers Group of Raymond James, and work from the firm's new office in Irvine, Calif., and satellite office in Boulder, Colo., according to a statement.

Rogers, the team's senior vice president, has 21 years of experience in the security industry, according to FINRA records. He is returning to Raymond James -- where he previously worked in the firm's independent channel between 2001 and 2004. After taking some time away from the industry in 2004, he realized he wanted back in.

"At the time there was no corporate channel in southern California," Rogers says. "Had there been a corporate channel, if possible, I would have stayed in the business after 15 years. Taking the time made me realize I love it."

Throughout the course of his career, Rogers has worked with numerous firms in the financial services industry, including Morgan Stanley and U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray. He spent four years at Ameriprise prior to making his latest switch.

Rogers says he is driven by an "entrepreneurial spirit," and has moved between firms, most of the time, because of mergers.

"While I was at Ameriprise, my 401(k) practice took on a life of its own and I decided that's what I wanted to focus on," he says. "There's a focus [at Raymond James]. There's an open architecture feel, and it feels good…I already know the culture, it's not like I'm stepping into a place I didn't know. Fortunately they wanted me back and it's a great fit. I’m hoping to finish my career here and I don't think I'm going to have to move."

Prior to spending ten years at Ameriprise, Furuya worked five years for Edward Jones, according to FINRA records. He started his career as an actuarial analyst with Security Connecticut Life Insurance Co. in 1980, according to a statement announcing the move.

Fleishman has nearly three years of experience, all with the group at Ameriprise.
