Ameriprise Recruits Advisors With Combined $261M AUM

Three advisors collectively managing $261 million in client assets have joined Ameriprise, according to a firm spokesman.

In the largest of three moves, advisor Robert Shanks joined Ameriprise's independent channel from Edward Jones where he managed $128 million in assets, the Ameriprise spokesman said. Shanks started his career at Jones in 1992, according to FINRA records.

According to BrokerCheck records, Edward Jones discharged Shanks in January for violating a company policy regarding outside business activities. In a statement in BrokerCheck, Shanks explained that he received a rent check from a tenant he managed at his office that was deposited in an Edward Jones account.

"It was against company policy for the administrator employed by Edward Jones to receive the check and deposit into the account. I should have taken the checks personally and then handed them to the administrator to deposit," Shanks said.

Neither Ameriprise nor Shanks nor Edward Jones responded to requests for comment in time for publication.

In a separate move, a Wells Fargo advisor with $70 million in AUM joined Ameriprise's employee channel in Palm Beach, Fla., said the firm. John Rojas has been in the industry since 1998, according to FINRA records. He joined A.G. Edwards in 2003, staying through that firm's merger with Wells Fargo.

In New York, Ameriprise recruited Marc Levy from MetLife Securities where he managed $62 million in assets, the firm said. Levy, who joined Ameriprise's independent channel, had been with Metlife for twenty years, according to his BrokerCheck file.
