RBC Promotes Branch Manager

RBC Wealth Management promoted an advisor to branch manager.

Advisor Brewster Sears will oversee six financial advisors in the firm's office in Syracuse, N.Y. He will report to Erik Hartmann, a complex director based in Rochester, N.Y., who oversees five offices in upstate New York.

In a statement, Hartmann described Sears as a seasoned professional, well-suited to lead the office due to his "industry knowledge and leadership skills."

Sears started his career in 1987 with Dean Witter, according to FINRA records. He moved to Painewebber in 1988, and joined Janney Montgomery Scott in 1996. Sears has been with RBC since 2004.

On Thursday, the Royal Bank of Canada said it would acquire City National Corporation, a Los Angeles-based bank, for approximately $5.4 billion. City National serves high-net-worth individuals and owns Convergent Wealth Advisors, an $8 billion-plus wealth management firm based in Washington.

The Royal Bank of Canada's wealth management operations in the U.S. currently has more than $281 billion in assets under administration and about 2,000 financial advisors in the United States.
