Morgan Stanley on Tuesday named Jim Rosenthal as its chief operating officer, according to a company memo obtained by IDD on Tuesday.
Rosenthal fills a position left open with the departure former COO Thomas Nides to the U.S. State Department.
Rosenthal had been chief operating officer of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and head of corporate strategy of Morgan Stanley with responsibility for overseeing the integration of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney since January 2010.
Rosenthal joined Morgan Stanley in 2008 from Tishman Speyer where he had served as its chief financial officer for two years.
Prior to his work at Tishman, Rosenthal was at Lehman Brothers from 1999 to 2005. At Lehman, he was head of corporate strategy and corporate development and a member of its management committee.
On Monday, Nides was sworn in as deputy secretary of state for management and resources; he will serve as a chief operating officer of the U.S. State Department.
