John Petrey

John Petrey is a business-savvy IT executive with extensive experience in banking and technology. Named a Top 100 CIO by Insight Magazine, Petrey has a proven track record of IT performance improvement, business-IT alignment and strategic planning. Throughout his career he has repeatedly been tapped to turn around troubled areas and startup new business units. As Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at First Niagara Bank, Mr. Petrey is enabling the bank to grow rapidly via acquisition, more than doubling in size in one year and tripling in two years. At the same time, Mr. Petrey is transforming the IT function to scale with the growing bank, developing the IT capabilities required and raising the IT capability maturity level. Mr. Petrey also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Guaranty Bank improving IT performance, efficiency, maturity and capabilities through IT Strategy, IT Governance, and business-IT alignment. As Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for TD Banknorth, Mr. Petrey successfully enabled the growth of the bank over three-fold during a seven year period including the conversion and integration of fourteen acquisitions and implementation of numerous mission-critical and high visibility applications. Previously, Mr. Petrey spent 14 years with Systematics (now Fidelity Information Services) as Senior Vice President and Account Director, Financial Services. He also held management positions at WestAmerica Bancorp, where he began his career. Mr. Petrey earned an M.B.A. with an emphasis on Management of Technology from Georgia Institute for Technology and a B.S. in Aeronautical Technology, Air Transportation Management from Arizona State University.
