Karen Burns
Director, Head of Goals Based Consulting Group, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management

Karen Burns is the Head of the Goals Based Consulting Group which consults with Financial Advisor teams on Goals-Based Wealth Management strategies and the benefits of leveraging the planning process as well as the firm’s tools and resources in order to acquire, strengthen and retain client relationships. She manages a team of 13 consultants and analysts providing them with insights and guidance on best practices and approaches to support Financial Advisor teams in delivering a Merril Lynch branded client experience.

Prior to this role, Karen was the Planning Consultant for the New England market and the East Coast Team Leader where she worked in a similar capacity as her current team members. Karen was previously Manager of the Planning Solutions Desk at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. As part of the Specialist organization, her team focused on delivering comprehensive, personalized planning services for High Net Worth clients. During her time with Bank of America Investment Securities, she held the position of Senior Financial Planning Analyst, where she managed 13 markets and offered guidance to Financial Advisors, Specialist partners and other client-facing associates in developing customized planning strategies for clients. Prior to joining the Planning Solutions Desk in 2005, she was a member of the Family Office Team at The Private Bank where she focused on Ultra High Net Worth and Philanthropic clients.

Karen has also held relationship management positions at Bear Stearns, Oppenheimer, Palmer & Dodge LLP and Wachovia Securities. She actively participates in the Bank Mentor Program, The Women’s Exchange, LEAD for Women, and was recognized in 2008 with a Bank of America Spirit Medallion Award.

Karen graduated from Union College where she majored in English. She completed the College for Financial Planning CFP coursework. She is also a Year III Candidate in Wharton Business School Securities Industry Institute Program.
