Black Takes Calamos Deeper Into the Dark Side

Calamos Investments this week welcomed an old foe into its fold. Gary Black, former chief executive officer of Janus Capital Group, will join the firm as Global Co-Chief Investment Officer and a member of the firm's Investment Committee.

He will team up with John Calamos, Sr., the firm's founder, to lead the investment team and oversee portfolio management, research, trading and risk management.

Black succeeds Nick Calamos, co-chief investment officer and a nephew of John Calamos, who has decided to step back from the day-to-day business of the firm to pursue personal interests. He previously served as a founding member of alternative shop Black Capital.

Calamos has also added a dedicated long/short equity investment team via the acquisition Black Capital. The firm currently manages a market neutral mutual fund dubbed the Calamos Market Neutral Income Fund.

“Gary brings 20 years of investment and leadership experience to our firm. His expertise complements that of our long-tenured teams and supports our strategic roadmap for delivering investment performance and evolving our global investment platform," stated Calamos.
