AXA Names Pietrini-Smith As Chief Operating Officer

AXA Distributors, LLC has appointed Joanne Pietrini-Smith as chief operating officer of AXA Partners, its life insurance business.

Pietrini-Smith will oversee the management and optimization of AXA Partners, including the operational aspects of new business and sales.

"With her outstanding management and operations skills, her technology expertise, and record of delivering high-performance results, Joanne will play an integral role in AXA Partners' drive to galvanize further growth in third-party life distribution," said Gary Hirschkron, president of AXA Partners and executive vice president of AXA Distributors.

Since joining AXA Equitable in December 2003 as a senior vice president, Pietrini-Smith has held a number of roles in the information technology group and retail distribution group.

Prior to joining AXA, she worked for First Republic Bank, Trainer Wortham & Company, and Mellon Bank Corporation in Pittsburgh, Penn.

She holds a B.A. in Computer Science with Business from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. and a M.B.A. from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass.

Venable Names Capitol Hill Policy Director as Partner

Washington-based law firm Venable LLP has added John O'Neill, the former policy director and counsel in the office of Senate Republican Whip Trent Lott, as a partner in its Washington office.

"John brings invaluable experience on many core issues facing business clients - including tax, pension, executive compensation, and employee benefits expertise in addition to health care," said Michael Ferrell, chair of Venable's Legislative and Government Affairs Practice Group. "He should help our clients navigate the many competing reform proposals certain to be advanced by a new administration."

He received his J.D. in 1999 from Georgetown University Law Center and his B.A. in 1994 from Skidmore College.

AIG Investments Taps Three For Global Business Team

AIG Investments has named three key additions to its global business development team.

Kevin Sullivan will serve as vice president covering U.S. public funds, and will be based in New York. He previously worked for Seizert Capital Partners and Loomis, Sayles & Co.

Jackie Car will also join the New York office as vice president of consultant relations. She will be responsible for deepening relationships with U.S. consultants. She previously worked for Commonfund and Morgan Stanley Investment Management.

Harald Steinbichler joins the Vienna office as vice president of business development, and will be responsible for expanding relationships with institutional investors in Austria and Central and Eastern Europe. He previously worked for DWS Investments and the Austrian pension fund VBV.

U.S. Trust Expands Boston Wealth Management Team

U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management has announced four appointments in Boston, in the latest of nearly 20 additions to the New England area in the last nine months.

Charles Lavrentios, Taylor Morrison and Christian Stone have been appointed private client managers and Joseph Fischer has been appointed wealth strategies advisor. Lavrentios joins U.S. Trust from Bank of America Premier Banking & Investments (PB&I) where he served as assistant market manager. Morrison and Stone also come from PB&I, where they served as senior client manager and client manager, respectively. Fischer previously served as a director at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
