Northern Trust Selects Browne as New CIO

Northern Trust has hired Robert P. Browne as chief investment officer of Northern Trust Global Investments.

Browne had been the chief investment officer for fixed income and proprietary investment at ING Investment Management, and before that, he was a managing director and co-head of North American fixed-income teams for Merrill Lynch Investment Managers.

Earlier in his career, Browne held senior fixed-income portfolio management positions at JPMorgan Chase in Japan and the United Kingdom.

Browne, 43, reports to Stephen N. Potter, president of Northern Trust Global Investments. Browne succeeds Orie Dudley, who retired last year after eight years as the unit's chief investment officer.

Northern Trust had $3 trillion of assets under custody, including $575.5 billion under management, at the end of 2008. The company has 85 offices in the United States and international offices in 15 countries.

Bruce Heads Up Aquila's Distribution Division

Aquila Distributors has appointed Maryann Bruce as president. In addition, the firm has promoted Chad Childs to chief operating officer of Aquila Investment Management.

In her new position, Bruce will oversee the day-to-day business operations of Aquila Distributors, including sales and marketing, relationship management, shareholder services, financial management and regulatory compliance.

"Aquila has relied on Chad's ability to run many organizational functions at our company for a number of years, and as a company veteran, familiar with all of its operations, he is uniquely suited to assume the COO title and responsibilities," said Aquila Management President and CEO Diana Herrmann. She added: "Having a seasoned professional of Maryann's caliber join Aquila is an important step for our organization."
