Amex Promotes Moen To Vice President, National Sales Manager

Steven J. Moen, an 18-year American Express veteran, has been promoted to vice president, national sales manager of the American Express Retirement Services. Just prior to the promotion, he led the company's institutional sales force as group vice president.

Moen will now head up sales and distribution for large- and mid-market 401(k) products, as well as the financial and educational planning services for the company.

"Steve is ideally suited for the job. He brings to this position a very successful track record in institutional sales," said Ward Armstrong, president of American Express Retirement Services.

That record includes a stint as regional vice president of sales, responsible for selling Amex products to Midwest corporations. He has also served as national marketing manager for the company.

Vega Asset Management Taps BoA's Barrowcliffe

As Managing Director

Bank of America executive Julian Barrowcliffe has jumped ship to join Vega Asset Management, where he will serve as managing director of the New York office and manage a new commodities trading fund.

Barrowcliffe, who had been BoA's managing director and global head of energy trading since 1999, started out in London as a crude oil trader for Shell. After that, he worked in commodities at Merrill Lynch and Cinergy.

"Julian is widely recognized as one of the top commodities traders in the business. His experience and professionalism are a great addition to the Vega team," said Jon Berg, Vega CEO.

Barrowcliffe, who has his bachelor's degree in business administration and French from The London University of Technology, said he looks forward to matching up his trading skills in an "entrepreneurial setting."

New York Life's Hillsberg Becomes Vice President

New York Life Insurance Co. has promoted Michael Hillsberg from corporate vice president to vice president. The 23-year company veteran will now head up its financial analysis division, specifically for the executive management committee and board of directors. He will also work with New York Life's chief financial officer on strategic planning.

As the corporate vice president, a position he had held since 1995, Hillsberg oversaw financial reporting units including statutory, GAAP and subsidiary reporting. Prior to that, he was an assistant vice president.

Fidelity Veteran Kellogg To Head Babson Sales

Michael W. Kellogg, a Fidelity Investments veteran, has left the company for David L. Babson & Co. Inc. as the head of distribution. In his new position, Kellogg will oversee both client services and sales and report to Chief Operating Officer Bill Glavin. He takes over for Edward Bickford, who now develops third-party distribution.

During an eight-year career at Fidelity's institutional arm, Fidelity Management Trust Co., Kellogg served in several capacities, most recently as senior vice president of relationship management.
