Alliance CEO Sanders Takes on Chairman Title

At a time when mutual fund companies are increasingly separating the duties of chairman and chief executive officer, Alliance Capital Management has announced that it was doing just the opposite, tagging chief executive officer Lewis Sanders with the additional title of chairman. Bruce Calvert, Alliance's current board chairman, is set to leave Dec. 31, at which time Sanders will take over. Sanders, 58, has been the firm's CEO since June 2003.

In another move, the company said that Chief Operating Officer Gerald Lieberman, 57, will take on the additional role of company president, effective immediately.

McLaughlin Joins kasina As Relationship Manager

Management consulting firm kasina has named Michael P. McLaughlin as a consultant and relationship manager. The seven-year industry veteran comes to kasina from Accenture, where he worked on business strategies for the company's large corporate clients.

During his career, McLaughlin has worked for, among others, Internet measurement company NetValue and Andersen Consulting, which spun off Accenture as a separate consulting division.

"In this environment, we are very happy to have an individual of Michael's caliber on board," said Steven Miyao, kasina's chief executive officer. "His experience managing large, complex assignments for major corporations will be a tremendous asset as we work to meet the needs of our clients."

NewRiver Appoints Jones Chief Financial Officer

NewRiver, a data technology and consulting firm serving the financial services industry, has tapped 15-year industry veteran Andrew D. Jones as its new chief financial officer. Jones held the same position for CCBN.com, where he oversaw finance, human resources and facilities. His duties at NewRiver will be similar.

"Andrew possesses a deep background in the financial services industry, and we are excited about the immediate strategic impact he will have on the organization," said Roland Beaulieu, the company's chief executive officer.

Jones has also worked for a Thomson Corp., Seagram and Price Waterhouse, where he worked out of both Stamford, Conn., and Edinburgh, Scotland. He is a chartered accountant, and holds a degree in commerce from the Scotland-based University of Edinburgh.

Tiburon Advisors Adds Four to Consulting Staff

Tiburon Strategic Advisors has appointed four new managers, three for research and one for marketing. The three research managers, Gerard Cronin, Roger Lam and Roger MacPherson, will be responsible for conducting research for Tiburon's internal research reports as well as for clients. The firm's new marketing manager, Elizabeth Donahey, will work with the media and conference planners to help get the firm's messages out.

Cronin joins Tiburon from Union Bank of California, where he worked in municipal bonds as an analyst. Before that, he analyzed market trends for Hewlett-Packard.

Lam, who joined the company from Spectrum Trading, has worked in equities since he joined the financial services industry in 1999.

MacPherson used to work as an independent consultant for young companies and buy-side investors, and also served as a vice president for Volpe, Brown, Whelan & Co. Donahey previously worked as a marketing consultant for Tripflare Consulting.
