Gallary Joins ICI as COO

The Investment Company Institute has hired Peter Gallary as chief operating officer. Gallary replaces Larry Maffia, who left the ICI in July to become president of ICI Mutual Insurance.

Gallary will lead the finance, technology, membership relations, human resources and administrative functions, as well as serve as a key liaison to the board of governors and its committees in support of ICI's governance process. He reports directly to President Paul Schott Stevens.

Gallary most recently worked at Putnam Investments as managing director and head of operations. He also worked at Boston Company Advisors as chief executive officer.

"Peter has a rare combination of expert knowledge, hands-on experience and proven leadership in our industry, along with a keen understanding of the vital role mutual funds play in the global financial market," Schott Stevens said.

Fidelity Hires Exec to Run Pyramis Asset Allocation

Fidelity Investments has hired Mark Friebel as head of asset allocation at Pyramis Global Advisors, its division running institutional funds. He reports to Young Chin, Pyramis' chief investment officer.

Friebel comes to Fidelity from Barclays Global Investors, where he was head of the asset allocation and product strategy group.

"Mark's appointment is the latest in a series of key additions to our team as we build a world-class investment organization," said Peter J. Smail, Pyramis president. "His experience and recognized expertise will be enormously helpful in addressing the growing interest among our clients for Pyramis to build investment capabilities that utilize the full breadth of our products."

As of the end of June, Pyramis had $129 billion under management. Fidelity aims to have Pyramis play an important role in doubling its total $1.3 trillion in assets within a decade. In April, Smail said he planned to hire another 25 executives.

Grayson Joins Wilmington To Head Up National Sales

Wilmington Trust has hired Darryl S. Grayson as head of national sales through financial advisers and institutional investors.

Grayson was previously with Gabelli Funds as national sales manager, mutual funds. He has also worked as national distribution manager at ARK Funds and as a sales executive at Delaware Investments, Bankers Trust and OppenheimerFunds.

"Expanding the availability of our investment management expertise is central to growing our business," said Neil E. Wolfson, president of Wilmington Trust Investment Management.

Catlender, Curewitz Join PFPC Development Group

Andrea Curewitz and Jason Catlender have joined PFPC's global business group.

As a senior director with the division, Curewitz will manage the sale of advanced output solutions services. She was previously with Dalbar, responsible for print sales and call center best practices. In her 17 years in the industry, she has worked as director of global strategic alliances and marketing manager, Americas for Teamstudio Software and in the global institutional marketing department at Putnam Investments.

Catlender, who comes to PFPC as a vice president, is in charge of enterprise sales of managed accounts. Most recently director of national accounts at FundQuest, Catlender has worked in financial services for a decade.
