The Vanguard Group has named Gerard P. Mullane director of sales for its Institutional Investor Group. He will be responsible for overseeing the company's sales to corporate and non-profit retirement plans and to corporate asset management programs. Mullane joined Vanguard in 1989 and held a series of positions within its institutional investor group. He succeeds Shelton S. Unger, who has been named head of Vanguard's Online Services unit.

MainStay Funds has named Mark Gordon president of NYLIFE Distributors, distributor of the MainStay family of 22 mutual funds. He joins the firm from Seligman Financial Services, where he was senior vice president in charge of sales for all of Seligman's mutual funds.

United Asset Management announced that Juliana M. Coyle and Kevin P. O'Brien have been elected as senior vice presidents. Coyle has been with the firm since 1993, was elected treasurer in 1994 and vice president in 1997. As treasurer, she oversees all the firm's treasury functions, as well as risk management, investor relations and public relations. O'Brien joined UAM in 1996 as vice president for corporate development, specializing in acquisitions and startups.

DST International, an asset management technology company based in the U.K., announced the promotion of Marcus Ansell to president of DSTi North America. Ansell has relocated to Boston and will report to Mike Winn, group managing director of DSTi. Ansell previously served as DSTi's director of product strategy.

First Data Investor Services Group has announced the promotion of Jylanne M. Dunne to senior vice president for distribution services. She has been with First Data for over 10 years and has been responsible for both managing client relationships and transfer agency operations.

Jeffrey N. Marshall has joined First Data as vice president for distribution services, responsible for client relationships. Previously he was a senior vice president for First of America Bank in Kalamazoo. Kenneth J. Kempf has been named senior vice president, account management and development at First Data. He is responsible for client services and start-up distribution clients. He joined First Data in February when the company acquired FPS Services, where Kempf had been the president and chief executive officer.
