The website of the Morningstar firm went down for an undisclosed period Tuesday, the same afternoon an earthquake rattled the East Coast from a site near Mineral, Va.
The development director of the Morningstar site told subscribers:
"Morningstar’s Chicago office experienced a power outage caused by an underground power failure this afternoon. The outage affected our data center, network, and telephones. Power has been restored and all systems are back online. We are working as quickly as possible to get all systems functioning normally. We apologize for the inconvenience."
The earthquake, which registered at 5.9 on the Richter scale, struck a site about 770 miles from Chicago. But many Illinois residents reported feeling shaking around the same time, according to a Chicago Tribune report.
The earthquake struck at about 1 p.m. Central time Monday.
