NICSA Names New President

The National Investment Company Association has named Barbara Weidlich president, the association announced yesterday. Weidlich, who will begin as president on July 2, will take over for Bob Goldberg, who served as president of NICSA for ten years and announced his retirement earlier this year.

Weidlich, a former member of NICSA's board of directors, has been active with the association for over 20 years. In addition to serving on the board of directors, she has served on NICSA's international committee, and received the PriceWaterhouseCoopers award in 1996, which NICSA gives to individuals who strongly contribute to association's educational mission.

Weidlich was most recently managing director of BIL Fund Services in Dublin, Ireland where she established the offshore funds administrative company in Dublin's International Financial Services Center for the European bank, according to NICSA.

Before joining BIL Fund Services, Weidlich was with State Street Bank and Trust Company for more than thirty years. Weidlich played a major role in State Street Bank's mutual fund client development, and also designed the strategy to launch the company's global offshore funds. From 1989 to 1992, Weidlich served as managing director of State Street Bank Luxembourg, where she oversaw the company's global mutual fund processing, staff recruitment, regulatory issues and major systems implementation, according to NICSA. She is also a former director of the Luxembourg Investment Fund Association.

'NICSA is very fortunate to have Barbara joining the organization,' said Gary French, director of investment operations at Zurich Scudder Investments in Boston and chairman of NICSA. 'She has a depth of experience in the industry and we are confident that she will be a significant force in working with the Board to move the organization ahead. As a result of the outstanding leadership provided by Bob Goldberg over the last eleven years, NICSA is in excellent condition and is poised for future growth.'

Weidlich holds a bachelor's degree in Management from Simmons College in Boston and an MBA from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass.
