Stifel Hires Branch Manager With $600M AUM

Stifel Financial has hired a new branch manager from Merrill Lynch with $600 million in client assets.

John M. Van Donge joins Stifel from Merrill's Global Wealth Management office in Century City, Calif., according to a statement from the firm. He will help open a second office for Stifel in Santa Barbara, and work with a team formed by former Merrill colleagues Michael Sullivan, Michael O' Keefe and John Bledsoe, Also with Van Donge is a registered client service associate Marie Aardema.

Van Donge joined Merrill in 1997. A 24-year industry veteran, Van Donge had been instrumental in establishing the firm's fee-based financial planning and investment management programs, as well as developing strategies and partnerships to deepen client relationships between global banking and the private banking and investment group, according to Stifel.

Raymond James Recruits Advisors With $560M in AUM

Advisors managing a combined $560 million in assets have left D.A. Davidson and Morgan Stanley to join Raymond James & Associates.

Advisor Trenton Morton joined Raymond James' Seattle office as managing director and senior vice president, investments. Previously at D.A. Davidson, Morton generated nearly $2 million in annual revenue and managed $290 million in client assets. Scott Hitchcock, an investment portfolio specialist, also moved with Morton.

Morgan Stanley advisors Robert and Lynne Pehl, who are brother and sister, joined Raymond James in Chehalis, Wash., which is about 90 miles south of Seattle.



Robert Pehl started his advisory career in 1987 with Dean Witter Reynolds, according to FINRA records. His sister joined him at the firm in 1994. The duo stayed through the firm's merger with Morgan Stanley, where they managed more than $265 million in client assets and generated $1.4 million in annual fees and commissions.

Advisors With $387M AUM Join Merrill

Advisors with more than $387 million in combined assets have left Morgan Stanley, bound for Merrill Lynch.

Merrill, in a released statement, said Richard Zinman joined the firm's office in Century City, Calif., and had produced more than $1.2 million while working for Morgan. FINRA records show he was based in Beverly Hills while working for Morgan, and had been with the firm since March 2008. He also previously worked for UBS.

A second advisor who left Morgan, Edward Viola, with more than $83 million in client assets, returned to Merrill after an earlier stint there in the early 1990s, according to FINRA records. The nearly 30-year industry veteran now joins Merrill's office in Paramus, N.J. The firm did not release his production numbers.

Also in New Jersey, former Morgan advisors Christopher Carbone and Charles Sergewick joined Merrill's office in Toms River. The duo made the move after managing more than $200 million in assets and producing more than $2 million while at their former employer.

Merrill Lynch Nets 2 Advisors With Combined $325M AUM

Merrill Lynch said it hired two advisors managing a combined $325 million in assets from rivals Raymond James and J.P. Morgan.

Advisor Ricardo Guerrero left J.P. Morgan to join Merrill's office in San Antonio, Texas. While at J.P. Morgan, Guerrero had $100 million in AUM and generated $904,000 in annual revenue. He had been at J.P. Morgan since 2006, according to FINRA records.

Raymond James & Associates advisor Jay Higgenbotham managed $225 million in assets and generated $1 million while at the regional firm. Higgenbotham joined Merrill's Birmingham, Ala., office.

Barclays Grabs J.P. Morgan Advisors

Barclays has lured away two advisors from J.P. Morgan Private Bank.

Josh Crossman and Ginny Neal joined Barclays Wealth and Investment Management's Palm Beach, Fla., office as directors and investment representatives for the firm's wealth and investment management division, according to a statement from the firm. They work with high-net-worth individuals and institutions, and will report to regional manager John Cregan.

A Barclays spokeswoman declined to comment on their AUM and production.

Raymond James Hires Morgan Stanley Branch Manager

Raymond James & Associates has lured away a branch manager from Morgan Stanley to help with the firm's expansion efforts.

Michael Schipper in his new role will lead Raymond James' San Francisco office, and play a key part in the firm's plans to build out its employee channel presence on the West Coast.

"I don't have a book," says Schipper, a 23-year industry veteran. "I'm here first to support my people come heck or high water, and second to tell the Raymond James story and grow the business by finding great, ethical advisors with great practices and bring them on board."

IMCA Names New Board Members

Two top advisors from Merrill Lynch and Wells Fargo were elected to IMCA's board of directors.

IMCA members chose for a two-year term Merrill Lynch senior advisor Keith R. Clemens and Todd Wagenberg of Wells Fargo. Both have over 20 years of experience in the wealth management business.

Clemens is the first vice president of wealth management at Merrill in Alpharetta, Ga. He already serves on the IMCA Wealth Management Committee. He has been employed with Merrill since 1985.

Wagenberg is the senior institutional consultant at Wells Fargo Advisors in Birmingham, Mich., where he has been since July 2003. Prior to Wells, he worked for seven years at Prudential in New York. He has served on the IMCA Certification Commission since 2007.
