The need is great among advisors' clients to be sure. But ironically, the need is just as great or greater among financial advisors themselves. 60-70% of the financial advisors out there do not have a plan to exit their business. If a planner wants to help his clients with this process, one of the best things he can do is do some planning for his own business and go through the planning process personally. Then, and only then, will he be qualified to give some advice to his clients.

Great article! Running the risk of preaching from the soapbox, I must add that the planner MUST assess the interrelationship among 13 different wealth management issues as the exit planning begins and evolves.
