U.S. Stocks Build on First-Quarter Gains

The Dow Jones Industrial Average moved up another 52.45 points to finish at 13,264.49 Monday while the Nasdaq and S&P 500 added 28.13 points and 10.57 points, respectively.

In the first quarter of 2012, the Dow gained 8.1%.

In other economic news, the Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing index checked in with a higher-than-expected score of 53.4 in March.

Meanwhile, the Commerce Department reported that construction spending fell 1.1% in February, its largest decline in seven months and substantially worse than the 0.6% increase most economists had forecast.

  • Today's bottom five laggards and their point contribution: HD (-2.42), UTX (-1.59), GE (-0.38), PFE (-0.38), MMM (0.15).
  • Down 6.35% from its record close of 14164.53 on October 09, 2007.
  • Up 102.60% from its 12-year closing low of 6547.05 on March 9, 2009.
  • Up 6.97% from 52 weeks ago.
  • Up 7.32% from its 2012 closing low of 12359.92 on January 06, 2012.
  • Up 24.49% from its 52-week low of 10655.30 on October 03, 2011.
  • Year-to-date: up 8.57%.
  • DJIA crossed zero 33 times during today's trading session.
