Edward Malmstrom

Managing Director & Manager, Health Care Group

Mr. Malmstrom is the manager of the Merrill Lynch Health Care Group. He has worked in health care at Merrill Lynch since September 1978 when Merrill Lynch acquired First America Health Facility Advisors, Inc. Mr. Malmstrom was a principal of First America and president of its mortgage banking subsidiary. Under his leadership Merrill Lynch has been a leading firm in health care finance. Mr. Malmstrom has served as senior banker and strategic advisor for all types of health care facilities ranging from large multi-hospital systems and medical group practices to smaller community hospitals. He is experienced in implementing all financing techniques available to health care providers including: tax-exempt and taxable bonds and notes, demand/tender obligations, debt restructuring and refunding, off balance sheet financings, master indentures and pooled credits, as well as government assisted programs such as FHA.Mr. Malmstrom's principal activities have centered around creating a challenging environment where talented professionals working as a team produce innovative and low cost financing structures that meet the needs of Merrill Lynch's health care clients and the Industry generally.More recently he has taken a leadership role in assuring Merrill’s clients of access to capital by using innovative credit and derivative structures.Mr. Malmstrom holds a B.A. from Columbia University (1965). He serves as a Board member of the following institutions: New York Downtown Hospital, New York City, the Old Blue Rugby Football Foundation, New York City, the All Stars Project, New York City and the Kane Area Community Center, Kane, PA.
