James Rohr

James E. Rohr is chairman and chief executive officer of The PNC Financial Services Group, one of the largest diversified financial services companies in the United States.Rohr, who joined the company through its management development program in 1972, proceeded through various marketing and management responsibilities in Corporate Banking. He was elected a vice chairman of PNC in 1989, named a director in 1990, elected as president in 1992 and named chief operating officer in 1998. Rohr was named chief executive officer in May 2000 and chairman in May 2001. For his leadership of PNC, Rohr was named American Banker’s “Banker of the Year” for 2007.Rohr is a director of BlackRock, Inc., ATI, EQT Corporation, RAND Board of Trustees and the International Monetary Conference. He is a member of the Federal Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve System and is the immediate past chairman and member of The Financial Services Roundtable. He is a past chairman of the Pennsylvania Business Roundtable, former director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and former chairman of BITS, the technology group for The Financial Services Roundtable.In addition, Rohr supports a number of civic, cultural and educational organizations. He is a director of Carnegie Mellon University, The Heinz Endowments and the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP). He is a member of the board of trustees for The University of Notre Dame; is past chairman and a member of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust; and, is past chairmanand member of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development. He is a board member and former chairman of the Greater Pittsburgh Council of the Boy Scouts of America. In October 2006, Rohr received the Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship. In May 2007, he received the Sesame Workshop Corporate Honoree Award and in May 2008 he received the Women's Institutefor a Secure Retirement (WISER) Hero Award from the Heinz Family Philanthropies. He was named a Horatio Alger Award recipient for 2011 by the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans.Rohr earned his bachelor of arts degree in 1970 from the University of Notre Dame and his master's in business administration from The Ohio State.
