Roger Patterson

VP for Business and Finance

Roger Patterson is the Vice President for Business and Finance at Washington State University and Treasurer of the Board of Regents. He joined the University in August 2010. He is responsible for a number of financial and facilities service areas, real estate and local relations, public safety, environmental health and safety, risk management and several auxiliary functions. Roger has over 26 years experience in higher education and 8 years experience in public accounting. Prior to joining WSU in August 2010, he served as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for 15 years and held several positions at Clemson University over a 9 year period. Roger co-author the Decision Support and Information Reporting Chapter in NACUBO’s College and University Business Administration (CUBA), 7th Edition [2009], co-authored an article in Leadership Exchange entitled “The Dueling Goals in Higher Education: Can a Focus on Students and a Market Ideology Co-exist?” [April 2006], co-authored a NACUBO Business Officer Article titled “Peak Performance” [April 2005] and authored the Introductory Chapter for NACUBO’s New Online Book on Managerial Analysis and Decision Support [July 2004]. He has spoken at several national and regional higher education conferences. Roger is a certified Public Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor and was a recipient of NACUBO’s Daniel D. Robinson Award for 2006. He holds a BBA in Accounting from the University of Georgia where he was a Member of Beta Alpha Psi, the national accounting honorary society. During his career, Roger has been active in several civic organizations including the Orange County Rape Crisis Center and Civitan International.
