Donaldson to Discuss Hedge Fund Roundtable Findings With House

Following last week’s two-day round-table on the hedge fund industry, Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman William Donaldson will speak to the House Financial Services Capital Markets Subcommittee Thursday about the industry’s role in the market.

"Hedge funds have served as a valuable tool for the sophisticated and institutional investor in managing market risk," Rep. Richard H. Baker (R-La.) said in a statement. "However, as more and more retail investors look to hedge funds as an investment option, we must ensure that there are adequate investor protections in place."

The subcommittee will be discussing various topics, but is particularly concerned with growing access to hedge funds by retail investors through funds of hedge funds. Donaldson will discuss disclosure and transparency, along with enforcement and fraud concerns in the $600 billion hedge fund industry.
