John Hancock Launches Initiative to Help 401(k) Participants

John Hancock Retirement Plan Services launched two new initiatives to help 401(k) participants achieve a comfortable retirement.

The most recent initiative is a post enrollment education program called EZ Route. It has four distinct models, which focus on different sets of participant needs. Within the sections are seminars and workbooks that teach essential skills related to effective retirement planning.

One of the most popular components of the program is regarding emergencies. Participants are able to record all their important financial information in one place to help with emergency preparedness.

The “Set A Goal” campaign, which was piloted last year and launched in full this year, helps participants to develop saving goals. Participants receive an annual review kit along with their first quarter statement that includes a questionnaire that walks participants through the process of setting retirement goals.

After the questionnaire is set back to John Hancock, a few weeks later the customer receives a one-page personalized action plan. Thus far, more than 1,000 plan participants have submitted their annual reviews in the first 10 weeks of release.
