    Rick Chisholm joined Wells Fargo Securities in August 2009 and co-heads the firm’s Education & Nonprofit investment banking practice.  He previously served as co-head of the Education & Nonprofit Group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.   With over 20 years of experience focused exclusively on raising capital for higher education and nonprofit organizations, Mr. Chisholm has executed more than 400 transactions totaling over $8 billion.In addition to serving a large number of higher education and research institute clients, Rick has also served as lead banker for major cultural institution financings. These include Orange County Performing Arts Center, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, Museum of Fine Arts – Boston, Los Angeles Music Center, Colburn School for the Performing Arts, and the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute.  Mr. Chisholm is a frequent speaker to 501(c)(3) organizations on capital markets trends and issues.  Recent venues include The Bond Buyer’s Cultural Forum, CFO/Arts, Boston Consortium of Colleges and Universities, WACUBO, and the Association of Independent Research Institutes.Rick holds an MBA in Finance and a BA in History from the University of California, Berkeley.  He currently serves on the Boards of National University and the YMCA of San Francisco.

    Diana Hoadley, Managing Director and Head of Higher Education/Non-Profit Group, has over 25 years of higher education/healthcare and non-profit investment banking experience. Ms. Hoadley has been involved in over $50 billion of tax-exempt and taxable financings, derivative and investment products, loan pools, leases, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures for institutions ranging from private colleges and public universities to research institutes, cultural institutions, and foundations. Ms. Hoadley’s banking practice is focused on asset liability management, capital raising, debt restructuring, academic medical centers, credit analysis and rating agency strategy.Ms. Hoadley is a founding Board Member of The Women in Public Finance – Northeast Chapter; United Cerebral Palsy of New York City – Women Who Care Board Member; a Regional Chair for Princeton University Annual Giving; and a member of the J.P. Andrew has worked in the finance industry for over 29 years, most recently as head of the Tax-Exempt Securities Division at Morgan Stanley where he was responsible for Public Finance, Short Term and Long Term Syndicate, Sales, Trading, Proprietary Trading, Derivatives, and Financial Products. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Andrew helped build the Financial Products Group at Lehman Brothers and began his career as an investment banker at PaineWebber.Andrew has had a diverse career in municipal, public sector, higher education, not-for-profit, and health care finance starting initially as investment banker for clients such as the City of Chicago, State of California, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. As a financial products specialist , Andrew has worked with a wide range of hospitals and hospital systems, universities and other Not for Profits to obtain lowest cost financing by creating innovative bond and financial product structures that meet client risk and return profiles. As a business leader and manager, Andrew has been responsible for founding and growing numerous businesses including national investment banking practices in the not-for-profit health care, higher education, and museum and foundation sectors; the student loan industry and housing/real estate sectors; a tax-exempt high yield syndicate, sales and trading operation; a regional dealer financial product desk; a global structured note origination and trading operation; and a bank liquidity and line of credit facility, among others.     Martin D. Arrick is a Managing Director in the Corporate and Government Ratings group at Standard & Poor�s Ratings Services. He is the senior analytical leader and group spokesman for the not-for-profit healthcare group. He is based in New York and leads a team of healthcare analysts throughout the country. Martin is actively involved in all aspects of the healthcare practice, including criteria development, and serves as chair for many healthcare committees. Martin is also active in the long-term care practice, the ratings of several national and regional health systems, and has primed a number of public and privatized hospital systems.Previous to joining Standard & Poor�s in 1990, Martin was a healthcare analyst in the New York State Comptroller�s Office. He has also held administrative positions in a hospital, a health maintenance organization, and the New York City Department of Health.Martin has been ranked in Modern Health�s list of the 100 most influential people in the healthcare sector, and was named to Smith�s all-star research team. He has authored numerous publications and special reports on the healthcare sector, and is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association�s Principles and Practices Board.Martin holds a bachelor of arts degree from Case Western Reserve University, a master of business administration degree and a master�s degree in Public Health from Columbia University.

  • Ms. Murphree was named as the Vice President for Finance at Emory University effective November 1, 2003.  As the institution’s chief financial officer, she is responsible for the functional areas of Finance, Office of Grant and Contract Accounting, Office of the Controller, Cash and Debt Management, and Procurement and Payment Services, Contract Compliance and Administration, Student Financial Services and Payroll. These areas include over 140 staff members.Ms. Murphree serves on numerous University committees and boards, including the University Ways and Means Committee, Administrative Council, Information Technology Steering Committee, Financial Officers Forum, Compass Sounding Board and Executive Committees, Emory Alliance Credit Union Board, and the Emory Healthcare Pension Board. In addition, she serves as a liaison to the Emory Finance Committee of the Board of TrusteesPrior to her current role, Ms. Murphree served as Associate Vice President of Administration and as Associate Vice President for Finance and Controller at Emory.  Before coming to Emory in 1987, Ms. Murphree worked for the University of Alabama as the Director of Financial Accounting and Reporting where she started her higher education career in 1978.  Ms. Murphree graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor of science in accounting.  She earned a master’s degree of business administration in finance from Georgia State University.

    Chas Cardall, a partner in the San Francisco office, is a member of the Tax Department and the Public Finance Department. Mr. Cardall primarily focuses his practice on municipal finance tax and nonprofit corporation tax matters. Mr. Cardall also has legal expertise relating to both charter schools and the federal income tax classification of governmental and quasi-governmental entities. He has consulted on thousands of tax-exempt, build America and tax credit bond issues and has developed deep expertise in almost every tax aspect of municipal finance.Private activity bonds for multifamily housing, solid waste, charter schools and independent schools are areas of particular focus in Mr. Cardall’s practice, as are higher education, short-term and long-term working capital and the various forms of pooled financings. Mr. Cardall also has advised numerous clients experiencing financial distress or bankruptcy in tax matters relating to their municipal bonds. Representative active clients include the State of California, the University of California, the Bay Area Toll Authority, and Charter School Capital. As an advocate, Mr. Cardall represents both government and non-government clients in IRS proceedings, including the various types of tax-exempt bond audits, voluntary compliance (VCAP) requests and requests for private letter rulings. Mr. Cardall has successfully closed IRS examinations relating to solid waste, working capital, healthcare, pooled, multifamily housing, and industrial development bond financings. He has obtained multiple private letter rulings and technical advice memoranda and has been integrally involved in numerous regulation and legislative projects. He has found that a close working relationship with IRS and Treasury Department personnel often is critical to obtaining good results for clients. Mr. Cardall is a regular panelist at industry and bar association seminars on public finance tax topics (most recently on the topics of working capital financing and IRS enforcement) and has lectured to the IRS at their field agent training program.

    Michael Cooney concentrates on matters related to nonprofit and educational organizations and their corporate governance, fundraising, state regulation, and taxation.Mr. Cooney’s practice includes clients such as private colleges and universities, hospitals and health care systems, social clubs, trade associations, private foundations and religious organizations. His work on investing and administering donor-restricted or donor-advised funds is nationally known. He has worked on issues such as tax-exemption and private foundation status, joint ventures both between exempt entities and with for-profit partners, and unrelated business income tax. He has advised clients on corporate governance, from the creation of the corporate entity to its dissolution. In addition, he has experience in fundraising and planned giving matters for non-profit institutions.Mr. Cooney is a member of the American, New York State, and Florida bar associations and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. He is the former chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Rochester Area Community Foundation, and chairperson of the Board of Directors of the World Childhood Foundation.

Since joining Cain Brothers, Carsten has been primarily involved with financial advisory engagements on behalf of hospitals and health systems, managed care organizations, ambulatory surgery centers, specialty providers and physician organizations. His engagements have encompassed a broad array of transactions including sales, acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, and restructurings, as well as the placement of debt and equity. Carsten regularly provides expert testimony in support of valuations, fairness opinions, and other transaction structures.Prior to joining Cain Brothers, Carsten was with Unibank A/S, a predecessor bank to Nordea Bank, in New York, where he was responsible for health care lending. Prior to Unibank, Carsten was a manager with Arthur Andersen & Co., where his health care work included hospital audits, feasibility studies, contract compliance reviews, and merger and acquisition advisory services.
