Holt serves on the boards of the National Audubon Society (as Chairman of the board) and the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters.

His community service endeavors include serving on the boards of the United Way of Miami-Dade County and the University of Miami. He is also Vice Chairman of the University of Miami Medical Affairs Committee.

John serves as trustee of the Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation and Saint Ignatius High School Board of Regents and is a director for The Diversity Center (previously know as the National Conference for Community and Justice). He is also a member of the advisory board of Gordon Square Arts District. In addition, John has been appointed as a member of the Ohio Venture Capital Authority. John is the former chairman of the board of trustees of the Cleveland Foodbank.
