Calm Returns to Wall Street as Dog Days Set In

Aside from a disappointing sales outlook from tech leader Dell, investors had little economic data to react to or run from Wednesday, resulting in a fairly eventless day of trading across the board.

The Dow nudged up 4 points to close at 11,410.21. Meanwhile, the tech-heavy Nasdaq closed off 11.97, or 0.47%, to 2,511.48 while the S&P 500 inched up 1.13 points to finish at 1,193.89.

That tech stocks -- and stocks from other industries for that matter -- didn't cave in the aftermath of Dell's revised is either a good thing or bad thing depending on your perspective

"You don't usually see tech down so sharply while the rest of the market is down less, which shows that the latest earnings have created a lot of concerns," Nicholas Colas, chief market strategist at the ConvergEx Group in New York, told Reuters.
