The Association of Divorce Financial Planners on Friday awarded its annual Pioneering Award to Dan Caine and Wendell Smith, the founders of Family Law Software Inc.
The ADFP award honors individuals who have pioneered products and services that have contributed substantially to the field of financial planning for divorcing couples. Caine and Wendell developed the Family Law Software package, a bundle of tools to help clients going through separations make informed decisions about spousal support, housing, child care, retirement plans, and more, by showing the near-term and long-term financial outcomes of their decisions.
The software package was introduced in 1998 and was the first on the market to offer a wide breadth of services, from capturing detailed financial information to calculating child support, taxes, and cash flow projections, according to Caine. The professional version for investment advisors, which is offered on a subscription basis ($600 a year), came out two years later.
Caine and Wendell, said ADFP executive vice president Carl Palatnik, “have filled a gap that existed.”
For financial planners working with divorcing couples, the product, said Palatnik, makes the process better and helps them do their jobs better.
“We’re honored to have our work to create a good, helpful product recognized,” said Caine.
The ADFP is a national organization for financial planners, attorneys, mediators, accountants, and other allied divorce professionals who work with individuals and couples to achieve fair and workable divorce settlements.
