Stocks Dip on Jobs Data

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 47.15 points Thursday to end at 12,896.67 while the S&P 500 shed 6.44 points to finish at 1,367.58.

The Nasdaq inched up 0.04 points to close at 2,976.12.

In economic news, the Labor Department said weekly unemployment claims fell 14,000 to a seasonally adjusted total of 374,000 claims, the largest declines since April. Meanwhile, the ADP National Employment Report found that private employers added 176,000 new jobs last month, well above the 105,000 new positions most had predicted.

  • Up 6.57% from its 2012 closing low of 12101.46 on June 04, 2012.
  • Down 2.88% from its 52-week high of 13279.32 on May 01, 2012.
  • Up 21.04% from its 52-week low of 10655.30 on October 03, 2011.
  • Year-to-date: up 5.56%.
