Advisor Satisfaction: The Independent B-D Scorecard<br><br>

Independent advisors overwhelmingly approved of Commonwealth Financial Network’s leadership and direction, pushing the independent broker-dealer to the top of J.D. Power and Associates’ 2012 U.S. Financial Advisor Satisfaction Study.


Commonwealth scored a 917 overall out of a possible 1,000 among independent advisors, securing the top slot for the second consecutive year. Advisors ranked their independent broker-dealers in nine categories, including leadership, technology and advisor services and support.

Simply the Best<br><br>

Commonwealth Financial Network, 971 points. “Our firm is client-first and we’ve never wavered from that,” says Wayne Bloom, CEO of Commonwealth Financial Network. “It starts with providing indispensable service for advisors and an environment for our 500-plus employees that is nurturing.”

Best of Both Worlds<br><br>

Raymond James Financial Services, with 887 points, placed second in both the independent and employee channels, showing improved ratings among independent advisors compared with last year. “We … have a pretty robust technology advisory council, wherein advisors give feedback and we work that back into the services,” says Tim Killgoar, director of client experience at Raymond James Financial.

The Admiration of Many<br><br>

Northwestern Mutual Investment Services notched up 831 points, ranking third among independent advisors. Earlier this month, Fortune named the Milwaukee, Wis., firm one of its “world’s most admired” companies.

A Happy, Thundering Herd<br><br>

Keeping 12,000 total advisors happy, regardless of business model, is a bit of a hat trick. LPL Financial managed to beat the national average, with 786 points.

It’s All in the Integration<br><br>

J.D. Power and Associates polled Cetera Financial’s advisors around the same time the parent company announced plans to buy Genworth Financial Investment Services. But the firm’s diverse business units still managed to score 780 points. It will be interesting to see how Cetera integrates 2,000 new reps and advisors into its fold.
