Execs moving up in bank wealth management

What do seven banks and one credit union from across the country share in common? They all recently named leaders to senior wealth management posts or related investment services businesses.

Jason Miller, BMO Private Bank

Jason Miller, a veteran of BMO Private Bank, was named to a newly created post as head of Wealth Planning in the U.S. He is now responsible for strategic development and providing financial planning services to high-net-worth individuals and families. He is supported by four regional leaders of planning.

Miller was previously a vice president of Wealth Planning for BMO Private Bank, directing all financial planning activities in Arizona, Washington, Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana and Missouri. He joined the bank in December 2010 as a wealth adviser associate.

Reuben Rashty, Fifth Third Bank

Reuben Rashty, a former J.P. Morgan Chase wealth management executive, was snapped up by Fifth Third Bank to run Mirador Family Wealth Advisors, the bank's ultrahigh-net-worth business. He succeeds one of the founders of the business, Glen Johnson, who will transition to a new leadership role within the Wealth and Asset Management division.

Rashty was also named managing director of Fifth Third Private Bank in Michigan.

At J.P. Morgan, Rashty served as market manager of the private bank in Michigan, a role he held for almost four years. Prior to that, he was head of domestic private banking for Israel Discount Bank in New York City.

Alexander Assaf, First Tech Federal Credit Union

Alexander Assaf joined First Tech Federal Credit Union as director of Investment Services for the Northwest region. He oversees financial advisers and their teams throughout Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Assaf was previously with James Alpha Management, a family office and asset management firm in Seattle, for almost a year. Prior to that, he was with Curian Capital, where he served as a senior external regional business consultant for three years.

James Fujinaga, Hancock and Whitney Bank

James Fujinaga joined Hancock and Whitney Bank as president of Hancock Investment Services, the bank's broker-dealer subsidiary. He replaces its longtime leader, Randy Bluth, who left Hancock in March to pursue other opportunities.

Fujinaga, who is based in New Orleans, will oversee investment services throughout Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, the five states in which the bank operates.

Fujinaga was previously a managing partner with Private Wealth Alliance, an organization that partnered with LPL Financial to help banks and credit unions reengineer their wealth management programs.

Doris Meister, M&T Bank

Doris Meister joined M&T Bank to lead Wilmington Trust's wealth management businesses. Meister was previously president of U.S. Markets for BNY Mellon Wealth Management, a position she held for almost seven years.

Meister is based in Wilmington, Del., but spends significant time in New York City and Buffalo.

Rick Ulmer, Regions Bank

Rick Ulmer, the former leader of Regions Bank's insurance business in the Mid-America region, was promoted to president and CEO of Regions Insurance Group. He now oversees the bank's insurance operations in all 10 states.

Ulmer replaced Curren Coco, who left Regions in August to pursue other interests.

Ulmer joined Regions in 2013 from Marsh USA, where he was the sales leader for the North Central region and industry executive for Marsh's industry verticals in the Central region.

Lisa Roberts, Union Bank

Lisa Roberts joined Union Bank as head of private wealth management for its northern California and Pacific Northwest region. She manages a team of private wealth advisers serving high-net-worth clients in her regional area.

Roberts was previously at Freestone Capital Management, a wealth management firm.

Bill Lafond, Wilmington Trust

Bill Lafond, a regional president for Wilmington Trust's Wealth Advisory, was promoted to a new role running the firm's family wealth division. He now oversees the delivery of advice and services for many of the firm's most prominent client families.

Lafond took over the role from Kemp Stickney, who was serving as both head of the family wealth division and chief fiduciary officer. Lafond is based in Wilmington, Del.
