As of Friday, Legg Mason Capital Management will offer retirement share classes on 11 of its flagship mutual funds that it, its ClearBridge Advisors unit, Western Asset Management and Batterymarch Financial Management run.

In so doing, the firm is trying to better serve investors in adviser-sold small- to mid-size retirement plans, and going forward, Legg Mason said it might offer R shares on other funds.

“By offering advisers more choices of pricing options based on retirement plan size and other factors, we give them the opportunity to choose funds from some of Legg Mason’s highly regarded and long tenured investment managers,” said Donald E. Froude, head of U.S. distribution for Legg Mason. “This is part of our overall effort to continually evolve to serve the needs of advisers in all of our relationships.”
