Advisor Partners Scores Former Schwab Portfolio Manager Kern

Daniel Kern, a former Charles Schwab portfolio manager, has left the company to preside over Advisor Partners, a firm that provides investment and wealth management platform solutions to advisors.

Kern will oversee investment management, sales and client service at the firm. He will also steer the development and implementation of investment strategies offered to advisors and institutions.

Prior to joining Advisor Partners, Kern was a managing director and portfolio manager at Charles Schwab Investment Management, according to the company. His investment experience includes selecting and overseeing investment teams in traditional and alternative asset classes, managing fund of funds and individual equities. Mr. Kern also served as a fund company CFO while with Schwab, with extensive experience overseeing third-party service providers.

Working with third-party providers will come in handy at Advisor Partners, which provides turnkey asset management programs to the wealth management industry, independent advisors and financial institutions. The Lafayette, Calif.-based firm is a subsidiary of Advisor Software.

“With Daniel’s exceptional leadership skills and track record of managing and producing 5-star funds, ASI will be well positioned to develop and launch new investment products related to our goal-based model portfolios,” Andrew Rudd, founder chairman and chief executive officer of Advisor Software said in a statement.

Kern started at Advisor Partners on Aug. 8 and succeeds Dennis Clark. Clark left Advisor Partners to become a managing director at California Investment Trust.
