Advisors With $317M Go Indy

Four wirehouse advisors, managing a total of about $317 million in client assets combined, have joined the independent channel at Wells Fargo.

James and Kelley Tate made the move to independence from Morgan Stanley, where the husband-and-wife team had been managing $131 million in client assets, Wells Fargo said. Both have more than 22 years of industry experience according the firm. Their independent practice is operating as the Tate Group of Venice, Fla.

Tighe Smith made the move to independence from UBS to open an independent practice, River Rock Family Wealth Management, in Spokane, Wash. Smith, a 31-year veteran, managed $104 million in client assets, Wells Fargo said. Before joining UBS in 2006, he worked with Piper Jaffray and Kidder Peabody, according to FINRA BrokerCheck records.

Daniel Welker, another advisor from UBS, joined the independent Eikos Capital Management in Phoenix. He has worked in the industry for 17 years and managed $82 million in client assets, before making the move, Wells Fargo said. He joined UBS in 1997, according to BrokerCheck.
